Where to host your wedding registry and why
Last updated October 28, 2026

Picking where to host your wedding registry sounds like a five-minute decision. Then you open Zola, The Knot and Amazon in three tabs, and suddenly it's midnight and you're comparing completion discounts like it's your job.
You're not alone. In The Knot's 2026 Registry Study, 82% of engaged couples made a registry. We went through the same thing while planning our own wedding, so here's what we learned: what each of the big registries does well, where each one gets annoying, and who each one is really best for.
We checked every perk, fee and return window below on each registry's own help pages in October 2026. These things change, so give the fine print a quick look before you sign up.
The short answer
No time to read the whole thing? Here's the cheat sheet.
Swipe the table to see every column.
| Registry | Best for | After-wedding discount | Returns on gifts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon | Biggest selection, fast shipping, a site every guest already knows | 20% off one order (up to $300 off) | 180 days, free |
| Zola | Website, RSVPs and registry in one polished dashboard | 20% off for 6 months | 90 days, free, as Zola credit |
| The Knot | Couples already planning on The Knot | 20% off Registry Store gifts for 6 months | 90 days, free |
| Target | Budget-friendly basics and in-store returns | 15% off, once online and once in store | Up to 1 year after the wedding |
| Crate & Barrel | Heirloom-quality kitchen and dining | 15% off for 6 months, as often as you like | Store return policy |
| MyRegistry | Every store on one list | Each store keeps its own perks | Each store's own policy |
| Joy | A free website with fee-free cash funds | 20% off Joy Shop gifts for 6 months (one time) | Depends on the store |
| Honeyfund | Cash and honeymoon funds only | Not offered | Not applicable |
Our take: if you want one registry your guests already know how to use, go with Amazon. If you want your whole wedding in one dashboard, go with Zola or The Knot. And you don't actually have to choose (more on that below).
1. Zola: the polished all-in-one
Best for: couples who want their website, guest list, RSVPs and registry under one login.
Zola is the pretty, organized friend of the registry world. Your registry lives right inside your free wedding website, so guests RSVP and shop in the same place, and you run everything from one dashboard.
What we like
- Everything in one place. A free wedding website with your registry built in, plus your guest list and RSVPs.
- A generous completion discount. 20% off anything left on your registry for six months after the wedding, and you can use it more than once.
- You control the timing. Pick when each gift ships, so nothing sits on your porch while you're on your honeymoon.
- Cash funds next to gifts. Guests can chip in on a honeymoon or a down payment, with a fee-free option through Venmo.
- It plays nice with other stores. You can link an existing registry (like Amazon or Target), and it syncs about every 24 hours.
The catches
- The smoothest experience is Zola's own store. Gifts from anywhere else go through an "Add to Zola" browser button, where you confirm the name and price yourself.
- Outside gifts don't always look great. When we added a set of silverware from another store, the photo never showed up. Linked registries can take up to 72 hours to show photos, and gifts you add by hand don't update their prices on their own.
- Outside gifts live by outside rules. Gifts from linked stores can't be returned or exchanged through Zola. Gifts from Zola's own store can be returned free within 90 days of delivery, but the refund comes back as Zola credit.
- Cash funds have a fee. When guests give by credit card, there's a 2.5% processing fee, and you choose whether you or your guests cover it. Venmo gifts from a bank, Venmo balance or debit card are free.
2. The Knot: the planning headquarters
Best for: couples already using The Knot for vendors, their website or their guest list.
The Knot is where a lot of couples start planning, and its registry plugs into everything else you're already doing there. If your venue, photographer and florist all came from The Knot, keeping your registry there too is the easy move.
What we like
- The whole planning toolkit, free. A wedding website, guest list and RSVPs, a planning checklist and a marketplace of nearly 175,000 vendors.
- One list for everything. Store registries, cash funds, charity donations and experiences all show up together.
- Easy syncing with big stores. Registries from partner stores like Amazon, Target, Crate & Barrel and Macy's sync automatically when you sign up for each one with the same email.
- A completion discount. 20% off gifts left on your list from The Knot Registry Store for six months after the wedding.
- Free shipping and returns on Registry Store gifts, with 90 days to send things back.
The catches
- Adding outside gifts is manual. For stores that aren't partners, you drag an "Add to The Knot" button to your bookmarks bar and add items one at a time.
- Syncing takes patience. A newly linked store registry can take up to 72 hours to show up.
- The 20% discount is only for The Knot's own store. Synced stores like Amazon and Target have their own completion perks.
- Guests pay the cash fund fee, every time. Credit card gifts carry a 2.5% processing fee, and The Knot doesn't let you cover it for your guests. Venmo gifts from a bank, Venmo balance or debit card are free (Venmo itself charges 3% if a guest pays with a credit card).
3. Amazon: our pick for most couples
Best for: the biggest selection, fast shipping and the easiest returns, on a site every one of your guests already knows.
Here's the thing about Amazon: even your grandma knows how to use it. That familiarity matters more than you'd think. When your registry looks and works like the site your guests already shop on, they actually check out with a gift before they show up on your wedding day. Nobody has to make a new login, learn a new checkout or text you for your address.
And the selection is hard to beat. A KitchenAid stand mixer, an Ooni pizza oven for backyard pizza nights, a Furbo camera to check on the dog and the noise-cancelling headphones you've been eyeing for months can all sit on one registry, side by side. Kitchen, outdoor gear, pets, tech and decor: one list instead of four.
What we like
- Everyone already knows it. Guests check out with the account, saved cards and Prime shipping they already have.
- Your address stays private. Guests only see your name, city and state, and gifts ship straight to you.
- 180 days of free returns on registry gifts, so you can sort through everything after the honeymoon instead of before it.
- A 20% completion discount. Once your registry hits $500 in qualifying purchases, you get 20% off one order of up to $1,500 (up to $300 off) on select items sold and shipped by Amazon. Use it within 90 days of your wedding to grab whatever didn't get bought.
- Tracking is built in. Gifts get marked as purchased so nobody doubles up, and your Thank You List keeps track of who gave what for thank-you notes.
- Group gifting. Several guests can chip in on one bigger gift, like the stand mixer you'd never buy yourself.
- Smart little extras. Flag your must-have gifts, add a note to any item, and let Gift Advisor suggest how many gifts to add at each price based on your guest count.
- It goes everywhere. Zola, The Knot and MyRegistry can all link an Amazon registry, so you can still show guests one list (more on that below).
The catches
- Gift funds are Amazon credit, not cash. Gift Card Funds and group gift contributions land as an Amazon gift card balance. If you want money for a down payment, pair Amazon with a cash fund.
- The completion discount is a one-time deal. It covers one order, and only items sold and shipped by Amazon.
- Watch the seller. Stick to items sold by Amazon or the brand's official store, so you know exactly what you're getting.
- No wedding website or RSVPs. For those, link your Amazon registry to Zola, The Knot or Joy.
Creating an Amazon registry is free and takes a few minutes.
Why we built Heirloomish on Amazon
When we started Heirloomish, we had to pick one registry to build around first. We picked Amazon for all the reasons above, plus a big one: an Amazon registry goes almost anywhere. Zola, The Knot and MyRegistry can all pull it in, so starting on Amazon never locks you out of the all-in-one sites.
Here's what Heirloomish adds. Our registry quiz asks how you two actually live: how you spend your weekends, how you like to host, and what you already own and love. Then it hands you a short list of gifts picked for that life, each with a personal note that tells your guests why it matters to you. Think less "random blender," more "the Dutch oven for our Sunday soup nights."
From there, our Guided Amazon setup walks you through your picks one at a time: open it on Amazon, add it to your registry, paste in our note and check it off. Your guests get a registry that actually sounds like you, and you still get all the perks of using Amazon: the shipping, the 180-day returns and the completion discount.
The honest tradeoff: no registry lets an outside site add gifts for you yet, so you add each pick yourself. And if guests shop from your Heirloomish page, they tap "I bought this" so nobody doubles up. A few extra taps for gifts you'll actually keep? Worth it.
Amazon is where we started, not where we'll stop. We plan to add more registries as we grow.
Add your Amazon registry to your existing wedding website
Worried about sending guests to three different sites? You don't have to. Register on Amazon for your gifts, then link it to the wedding website you're already using:
- Zola: paste your Amazon registry link into Zola's list of linked stores. It syncs every 24 hours, and guests who pick an Amazon gift check out on Amazon.
- The Knot: make your Amazon registry public and use the same email on both sites, and it syncs automatically. A new registry can take a day or more to show up.
- MyRegistry: sync Amazon alongside stores like Target and Macy's, and keep each store's perks.
- Joy: works a little differently. Joy moves your Amazon registry over and asks you to switch the Amazon one to private to avoid duplicate gifts, so your list lives on Joy from then on.
The best part: guests who click through still shop on the site they know, with Amazon's shipping and returns. You get one tidy registry link for your invitations, and nobody has to learn a new checkout.
Other registries worth a look
4. Target: best for budget-friendly basics
Target is the registry for towels, storage bins and everything you'll restock forever, with the bonus of returning things at a store down the street.
- 15% completion coupon that arrives the week of your wedding. Use it once online and once in store within six months.
- The longest return window on this list: up to a year after your wedding for most new, unopened gifts.
- A gift tracker that keeps track of who gave what.
- The catch: it's Target only. You can't add items from other sites, and gift-receipt returns come back as a Target gift card.
5. Crate & Barrel: best for heirloom-quality kitchen and dining
If you want the dinnerware you'll still use at your 25th anniversary, Crate & Barrel is a classic for a reason.
- 15% off Crate & Barrel products for six months after the wedding, and you can use it as many times as you like, in store, online or by phone.
- Add CB2 pieces to the same registry, or register in person with a store associate.
- Shows up on The Knot if you opt in when you sign up.
- The catch: one store family and higher prices. Group gift contributions come as a gift card, not cash.
6. MyRegistry: best for putting every store on one list
MyRegistry is a universal registry. Its whole job is collecting gifts from everywhere into one link.
- Free, and you can add items from any store, online or in person.
- Syncs store registries from places like Amazon, Target and Macy's, and you keep each store's perks.
- The catch: it's a list, not a store, so there's no completion discount of its own. Cash gift funds carry a small transaction fee.
7. Joy: best for a free website with fee-free cash funds
Joy is a free wedding website and registry with a big focus on keeping cash gifts fee-free, plus a one-time 20% discount on gifts from its own shop for six months after the wedding.
- Fee-free cash funds when guests use Venmo, PayPal or Cash App.
- Card gifts: the guest pays the card processing fee, and moving money to your bank costs $1.70 per transfer. Joy says it keeps neither fee.
- The catch for Amazon fans: moving your Amazon registry to Joy means making the Amazon one private, so you'd manage your list on Joy instead.
Cash funds: where to put them and what they cost
Cash is having a moment. In The Knot's 2026 Registry Study, 75% of couples included a cash fund, and 41% said cash was the gift they wanted most. Cash has its place, especially for a honeymoon or a down payment. But plenty of guests still want to give you something they picked out, so make it something you'll actually use. That's the whole reason we made Heirloomish. If you add a cash fund too, the fees matter, because they come out of your honeymoon money or your guests' pockets.
8. Honeyfund: best for cash and honeymoon funds only
Honeyfund does one thing: cash funds. Guests don't pay a fee, and Honeyfund covers card processing. You pay when you move the money out, unless you keep it in the Honeyfund Wallet or take it as gift cards, which are free.
Cash fund fees, side by side
Swipe the table to see every column.
| Where | The fee | Who pays it | Fee-free option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zola | 2.5% on credit card gifts | You or your guests (your choice) | Venmo from a bank, balance or debit card |
| The Knot | 2.5% on credit card gifts | Always your guests | Venmo from a bank, balance or debit card |
| Joy | Card processing fee, plus $1.70 per bank transfer | Guests pay the card fee, you pay the transfer | Venmo, PayPal or Cash App |
| Honeyfund | 2.2% to PayPal or Venmo, 3.5% + $0.59 to a bank | You | Honeyfund Wallet or gift cards |
| Amazon Gift Card Funds | None listed | Nobody | It's Amazon credit, not cash |
Our take: put your gifts on Amazon and your cash wherever it's cheapest for you. Fee-free Venmo funds on Zola, The Knot or Joy keep the most money in your pocket.

So, where should you register?
If we had to pick one setup, it's this: Amazon for your gifts, a fee-free cash fund for the big stuff, and one wedding website that links to both. You get the biggest selection, returns that last well past the honeymoon, and a discount on whatever's left.
But wherever you register, the harder question is what to put on it. That's the part we built Heirloomish for. Take our registry quiz, tell us how you two actually live, and get a short list of gifts you'll keep for years, each with a note that gives your guests the story behind it. It takes a few minutes and it's free.
